1956 Gibson TV Yellow Les Paul Special & 1955 GA-30 Amp TV Yellow Guitar & Two Tone Amp

Here we have something truly special, the kind of thing that walks through the door once in a blue moon and just makes our collective hearts go pitter pat. A one-owner 1956 TV Yellow Gibson Les Paul Special and a 1955 Gibson GA-30 amp in excellent condition. The amp and guitar were bought new by an accordion teacher who worked at the music store from which they were purchased in the mid-50s.

The condition of the guitar is high excellent with a few small scuffs and dings from handling and case wear. It doesn’t look like the guitar was played much, if at all. The TV Yellow finish is as good as we’ve seen on a Paul of this era, clean, bright, and with great grain. There is a bit of scuffing on the top edge of the headstock (see photos) that is likely due to movement of the guitar within the case.

The amp is also in very good to excellent condition minus some tarnish and losing the first digit of the model number on the badging. There are a few small spots of tolex staining and tearing, but very minimal. The amp is in good working order with no modifications.

We don’t have to tell you how great 50s Les Paul Juniors and Specials sound. They are in a class of their own, and this one doesn’t disappoint. The guitar is all original except for a set of period replacement tuners. The original tuners without buttons are in the case. The pickups on this Special sound divine, and having the neck pickup gives this guitar more tonal versatility than a Junior. Comes with the original 4-latch Lifton case and Hang Tags, too.

The GA-30 amp is from 1955 and is likewise all-original. Dual 6V6 power tubes, three 12AX7s, and a 5Y3 rectifier tube. Original pair of Jensens, one 12 inch speaker and one 8 inch speaker, that are sounding great. Controls include Mic Volume, Instrument Volume, Tone, and Tone Expander Switch. 50s Gibson amps have long been underrated but people are starting to discover how great they are and we’re seeing prices continue to rise as a result.
