Description

1991 Gilchrist Model Five in good condition. Based on but not identical to a 1920's Gibson L-5, this 25.5" scale 16" archtop guitar was the 2nd L-5 built by Gilchrist. This guitar is constructed with a parallel braced Englemann spruce soundboard, flamed red maple back and sides, 3-piece flame maple neck, ebony fingerboard and bridge, and a varnish finish. Cosmetically this guitar is in great shape, structurally it has had a peghead repair performed by Hugh Hansen which is solid. Around 2002 the guitar was sent back to Stephen Gilchrist to have the top replaced by him as noted on his website. There is scant evidence of that repair having taken place. Neck is 1.68" wide at the nut, profile is 0.92" at the 1st fret, 1.12" at the 10th fret. Weight is 4.28lbs. Comes with a hardshell case.
