Early Country Gents are held in higher regard than the later ones. They are somewhat odd. The f-holes are filled with plastic (same material as the top of a Duo Jet). I guess Gretsch, being a drum maker, had lots of this stuff around. later, they simply painted on the f-holes. The point was to minimize the feedback from a full hollow guitar and, frankly, Gibson's idea of a solid center block worked better. Still, these early Gents are pretty nice guitars. Great action, comfortable neck and excellent pickups. These are early patent applied Filtertrons and, no, they aren't given the respect that a Gibson PAF gets but they are good pickups. The fact that they are still in wide use 60 odd years later tells you something. Condition is 9/10. Some subtle flame on the front and not so subtle on the back. There is some finish wear to the neck but not much else. It's a very clean example. There is a crack in the guard by the screw and some minor damage to the gold paint on the back of the guard probably from a piece of foam put there to keep the guard from scratching the top. No binding issues. Original case.
