Description

To commemorate their 75th Anniversary, Gretsch released several budget models in 1958 and 1959 in order to entice buyers to join in on the celebration. As an all maple archtop with the two PAF filter’tron pick-ups this guitar has the same features as the higher end Chet Atkins 6120 model. The only differences are the missing bright orange color and the binding on the neck and F-holes. This is a very rare and special guitar that came to us recently in exceptional condition as a classic “under-the-bed” find. This particular guitar has a serial number of 32205. It features a 24.5 neck scale with a 1 11/16th” nut width and 21 frets on a rosewood board. The 3 piece maple neck sports a small to medium V-shaped neck profile radius. The frets are still in great shape after all these years. All parts look to be original and in superb shape. including the Anniversary Model diamond plaque on the headstock and thumbprint inlays on the neck side. The original Gretsch Filter-tron pickups sound amazing and the space control bridge is set up for maximal intonation and playability. The gold Gretsch branded pick guard is near perfect as is the binding on both sides of the body. The neck is set at a nice positive angle with plenty of room for adjustment at the bridge. The grey pick up surrounds have survived intact with only one tiny screw crack on the top right of the neck pick up. This guitar is in spectacular shape with only minor playwear throughout the body. The sunburst amber finish is outstanding with no checking. The biggest difference between this Anniversary model and the more common single pickup version is the weight and the added sustain from the center strut and trestle bracing under the bridge. As opposed to the light and airy feel and sound of those other Anniversay models this version is solid, strong and professional looking and sounding, closer to the original 6120s. With all of this in mind don’t wait too long to think about owning this guitar at a half of the cost of a 6120. They are far and few between, especially in this condition! Includes original hard shell case.
