Replay Guitar Exchange looks toward the fondly-imagined past with this interesting Gretsch G9531 Double-O "Grand Concert" acoustic guitar in Appalachia Sunburst. It's from the Gretsch Roots Collection, which represents a level of design, detail and craftsmanship not seen since days long gone. Inspired by tradition, yet rooted in pure Gretsch sensibility, these instruments speak with voices that harken back to a bygone era of living room choruses and prairie melodies.
Dressed to impress with a stunning tortoise headcap with pearl logo and upgraded pearl inlay design, the G9531 Style 3 Double-0 sounds out loud with a big, rich bass that is full and under control. The high end is very liquid — not too fast — and it folds into the tone with a nice, decaying bloom that seems to float through the room.
This Gretsch is in Near Mint condition, with an estimated 90% remaining fret life. It's quirky, charming and comfortable — and we want to take it home for ourselves, if you don't.
