Crafted in Guild's Oxnard, California, factory, the D-40E brings back the glory days when dreadnoughts ruled. Designed by Guild master luthier Ren Ferguson with scalloped Sitka spruce bracing for power, articulation, and responsiveness, this all-solid-tonewood acoustic guitar delivers huge tone and volume. The D-40E's large dreadnought body, with its Sitka spruce top and mahogany back and sides, serves up a robust tonal palette that's perfect for vocal accompaniment, solo work, and many other "unplugged" applications. Plug-in onstage or in the studio, and the onboard LR Baggs Element VTC electronics amplify that potent tone flawlessly. The comfortable C-profile mahogany neck is topped with an Indian rosewood fingerboard. Premium appointments include an Indian rosewood bridge and fingerboard, bone nut and saddle, tortoiseshell pickguard, and a thin satin varnish finish that imparts a timeless, played-in look and feel while allowing the sound of the Guild D-40E to bloom unimpeded.
LR Baggs Element VTC active acoustic pickup system
The Guild D-40E comes with LR Baggs's popular Element VTC active acoustic pickup system, which features a low-profile under-saddle transducer that's proven more stable and durable than many standard ribbon-type pickups. Combined with an onboard preamplifier with an unobtrusive removable volume control mounted just inside the soundhole, the Element VTC is a tremendous performer. Its sleek and effective design removes unnecessary internal components to enhance the coupling between the pickup and the guitar and improves the sensitivity of the transducer for a robust, lively, and natural acoustic sound with excellent dynamics and delicate high end. The Element VTC works with a standard 9-volt battery, which is housed inside the guitar in LR Baggs' "Battery Bagg."
