C. 1965 Guild D-50 "Bluegrass Special" #44637 w/ohsc

The term "banjo killer" is a bit over-used in my opinion, but at the risk of sounding cliche I'm going to apply it to this 60 year old Guild D-50. This rosewood beauty has a huge voice and while it loves to be played hard it is equally sweet when finger picked, as you'll hear in the available sound file. The guitar has a rich and full voice along its entire range and can hold its own with any rosewood guitars of the era. The guitar has Indian rosewood back and sides under a Sitka top. The bridge is a replacement but everything else on the guitar appears to be original including the hard case. The serial number is #44637 and the label is from the Hoboken, NJ factory, dating it prior to the '66 move to Westerly, RI. The back and sides are free of cracks but show some minor nicks and dings from decades of play and handling, less overall than is typical for a guitar of this age however. The same can be said for the neck, there's one small spot of finish wear through to the wood behind the 3rd fret, dead in the center of the neck shaft, other than that the neck finish is in very good condition. The top has one repaired crack on the treble plate along the edge of the pickguard, the repair looks old, it is flat/closed and stable and was cleated on the inside as part of the repair. The neck was reset at some point in the past, the angle is good though there was some slight finish loss along the heel that is visible (minor, but worth mentioning). The pickguard is original and flat, securely glued to the top. The top is flat under tension, no significant belly or bridge deflection. The fret board is free of divots or wear as are the frets. The truss rod functions well and the neck is straight under tension of .012-.053" (light) gauge strings. The action is currently set at 7/64" at the low E and 6/64" at the high E and there is saddle remaining to lower the action if desired. The original hard case is present, all the latches are present as is the handle. The cloth strap that used to hold the lid open is, as is so often the case, gone. $2250
