John Sebastian's "Special Order Only" 1969 Guild F-412 Blond
Recorded on "John Sebastian and Arlen Roth Explore the Spoonful Songbook"
1969 Guild F-412 BL (Custom Special Order)
John Sebastian's 17-inch-wide, 5 1/8 inch deep, "High End Twelve String Guitar" weighs just 6.90 lbs. Close-grained "X-Braced" spruce top, one-piece carved flamed maple back, and flamed maple sides. Two-piece flamed maple neck with walnut center-strip and 'double truss-rod system', a comfortable nut width of just over 1 7/8 inches, a scale length of 25 1/2 inches and a wonderful medium profile. Triple-bound black-faced headstock with inlaid Inlaid pearl "Guild" logo and pearl "G-shield" inlay. Twelve individual "Guild" Grover Roto-Matic tuners with half-moon metal buttons. Four-layer black over white plastic 'shield shaped' truss-rod cover with two screws. Ebony fretboard with 20 jumbo frets, pearl block with abalone "V" inlay position markers and inlaid double white lines on each side of the fingerboard. The top and back have nine-ply black and white binding, and the soundhole rings are in three groups of seven, nine and three black and white rings. Single-layer black celluloid pickguard. Bone bridge on rosewood base with twelve ivory string pins. With the Guild ' white oval label inside the sound-hole with Model "F-412 Bld" and the serial number "OB-114" written in blue ink. All hardware gold-plated. This custom ordered and now quite rare twelve-string guitar is in exceptionally fine (9.00) condition. There has been some work done on it, most probably by the Guild factory many years ago and still 100% solid: three top cracks, extremely expertly done; re-fret, still nice and fresh; one coat of lacquer on the top; and a bridge re-glue. The bridge is rosewood and may or may not be original to the guitar but is absolutely a Guild factory bridge. Housed in the original Guild black five-latch hardshell case with blue plush lining with the Studio-Instrument Rentals identification "Guild 12 OB-114" stencil-painted in white. (9.00). (#2298)
