So, here's the tale of how this bass was acquired. It may not be highbrow, but at least it's real-world. In the following, "BP" stands for bass player to make things flow a little easier.

At this past Dallas Guitar Show, myself and two other bassists were standing in front of the booth where this bass was being displayed for sale. The conversation went as follows:

BP1: " That's a cool bass. Y'all ever seen a yellow Pilot?
BP2: "Nope."
Me: "Me neither. Think it was a custom order or something?"
BP2: "Had to be. I ain't never seen one in yellow either."
BP1: (picking the bass up) "Neck looks good. It's got some buzzing up top. Damn, this is the first one of these basses I've ever seen in yellow."
BP2: "Me too."
Me: (taking the bass) "Yep, frets feel a little high at the top of the neck, but they're good on the bottom. Y'all sure you ain't never seen one of these in yellow?"
BP1: "Nope."
BP2: Nope, me neither."
Me: "Damn, this is a cool bass. I just ain't never seen one in yellow. Either one of you gonna go for it?"
BP1: "Nope."
BP2: "Nope, me neither."
Me: "Cool- I'm gonna see if I can work something out with this guy. I'll let y'all know if I scoop it."
BP1: "Cool. See ya later."
BP2: "See ya, pimp."

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how it came to pass that on a Saturday morning at the 2022 Dallas Guitar Show, this '85 Pilot was purchased and put under our table. After I got it home, I realized a couple of things:

1: The original Guild/Schaller bridge was locked up tighter than Dick's hatband so we replaced it with a brand spanking new Schaller bridge. Let the adjustments and intonations begin!

2: The bass needed about four frets in the upper register of the neck replaced, but considering that there was some pretty significant wear on the lower 7-8 frets, I had my tech, the one we call "El Hefe" do a complete refret job and the results have proven to be well worth it. We now have a 4-string rock beast ready to go and by all that is holy, you'll have the only one ever seen in... you guessed it- yellow. It looks as if one of the knobs has been replaced. The original bridge is included and although the original case looks like it was dragged behind a garbage truck, it's still structurally sound and protects the bass as it should.

That's it- this is our story and we're sticking to it. As always, we thank you for stopping by and urge you to please call, email or PM with any questions!
