The Guild X170 Manhattan from 1999, features dramatic performance in a highly versatile guitar with rich, professional tone quality and excellence of workmanship at a moderate price. This Old World style cutaway guitar features a multi-laminate, highly figured maple body in medium-full size: 16 5/8” inches wide and 2 ½” inches deep, instead of the full 3 ½” depth. . Its graceful design makes this instrument easy to hold and to play. The Manhattan features a harp tailpiece and gold hardware. The nut is 1/32" less than 1 ¾”, and the weight is 7lbs 6ozs. Materials: Arched flame maple top; arched flame maple back and sides, and figured flame on the maple neck with mahogany stripes; rosewood fingerboard with block inlay; 3-ply body binding, bound fingerboard; Chesterfield peghead inlay. Gold plated carved tailpiece, beveled art deco stairstep pickguard.
Condition: 100% original parts and finish. Not one scratch or nick anywhere. A mint condition item, but for a bit of wear on the tuner buttons, and pickup covers.
Hardware: All original gold hardware. Has the orig Grover Rotomatic tuners; twin Guild Frequency Spectrum humbucking pickups. Original compensated rosewood bridge and pickguard.
Notes: Introduced in 1988, the Guild Manhattan X-170 is a thinline version of the venerable X-175 , which made its debut in 1954, a year after the firm opened its doors. With its wide body and contoured Venetian cutaway, the design of the Manhattan X-170 resembles that of the Gibson Byrdland or ES-350T, with the playability of a standard scale length neck. It has an original type of tone post block under the bridge.
A scarce model especially in blonde, the X-170 was produced only until 2003. This example is from the Westerly, Rhode Island factory, where Guild enjoyed its greatest years from 1966 until its closing in 2001. The guitar wood is in 100% original mint condition, warmly ambered original blonde finish, original hardware. It comes with the original excellent hardshell case. An outstanding value in an attractive package, the Manhattan X-170 offers comfort, tone and a great feeling neck in a rare package for the performing guitarist.
