Description

Harmony H168 c 1969 | $750 | (v2432) The Harmony H168 acoustic guitar is a triple-0 size flat top that was produced at the tail end of the 1960s. This example is likely from the latter part of its production since earlier iterations had slightly different adornment. Even this late in the game, Harmony had a high quality stash of woods, so that and the large body makes for a great vintage folk guitar. The Fender-esque headstock adds to the vibe.

The top is solid spruce, ladder braced and bound in b/w/b purfling and white celluloid, which is echoed at the sound hole. The back and sides are a nice grade of ribbon mahogany seen on many Harmony guitars of the era. The neck is mahogany and carved in a 'C'-shape, and features an adjustable truss rod. The headstock in a nod to Fender, and features some psychedelic filligree ornamentation which is echoed on the pick guard. The fingerboard is Brazilian rosewood and bound in white celluloid with inlaid side position markers. The bridge is Brazilian rosewood and features a Gibson-style adjustable saddle.

The body measures 15 1/8" across at the lower bout. Scale length is 25 1/4". The fingerboard measures 1 3/4" across at the nut, and string spacing is 2 5/16" across at the saddle. The action is set at 6 & 7/64".

The guitar appears to be 100% original and crack free except for a new plastic heel cap and maybe the bridge pins. We recently: reset the neck; leveled and dressed the frets; cleaned and lubed the tuners. The guitar plays easily and with its quality woods and generous proportions sounds full and rich with great sustain. A nicely balanced guitar for folk or country picking.

Comes with a soft case.
