Who the heck is Roy Smeck? Known as the “Wizard of the Strings,” Roy played banjo, uke, and guitar. He started in Vaudeville and went on to become a nationally known musical celebrity who endorsed Harmony and Gibson guitars of various types. This 1967 (possibly earlier) Harmony H73 is a particularly fine example of a Roy Smeck model guitar.
This single cutaway guitar comes equipped with two sweet sounding gold foil Dearmond pickups with adjustable pole pieces. Super comfortable 1 3/4″ nut width and a scale length of 24 1/4″. The neck on this guitar is straight, action is great up and down the neck, the original frets and fingerboard are in very good shape, and the guitar plays beautifully.
Comes with original two-tone soft shell case and a bevy of original case candy including hang tags, care and use booklet, and tremolo system setup guide. Guitar is completely original except for a replaced tremolo arm. Very good to excellent vintage condition with a vibrant red finish and minimal wear and tear, but does have some flaking on the bridge cover and minor discoloration on the back of the guitar that can be detected only upon very close inspection.
So there you have it. A Roy Smeck signature vintage guitar which not only looks wonderful but plays as good as it looks. Roy would have been proud of this one.
