Harmony H912 12-String ca 1966 | $750 | (v2105) At the height of the folk boom in the 60s, Harmony produced guitars by the hundreds of thousands. Out of this pack emerged the H912, a twelve-fret, slot-head 12-string acoustic, many sporting the 'Stella' brand. These Harmony 12s were among the first 'wave' of 12-strings to reemerge during the 'folk boom' post WWII. Today they are a great value in the vintage market.
This example dates to 1966, based on the ink stamp inside the body, comes from its original owner, and is as clean an example as one could hope to find. All components appear original to the guitar, and it's in overall excellent condition. The body is all solid birch, trimmed in white-painted binding, with a striking red-orange sunburst on top, back and sides. The neck is poplar, carved in a fairly flat 'D' profile. The white pick guard is screwed to the top (factory). The neck features an adjustable truss rod. The body measures 15 1/4" across at the lower bout. Scale length is 25 3/16", and the fingerboard is 2" wide at the nut.
There are no evident past repairs to the guitar. There is little evidence of playing wear and only a few minor nicks and dings, and some typical 'wrinkling' at the sound hole, keeping it from 'mint' condition. We recently reset the neck, leveled and dressed the frets, and re-glued one brace tip. As an added bonus, the guitar retains its original hang tag also in very good condition!
The guitar plays extremely well with a smooth action and produces the bright, jangly sound that the H912 is known for. Nice guitar for country blues 12-string, or strum it for a 60s Folk vibe. We've included a new hard case.
