Description

You would be hard pressed to find a finer example of this early ‘70s English-made bass. From the see-through logo portal on the headstock to the lucite guard and pick-up covers this one has a distinct style that stands out from other basses of the era. The 34.5” scale one-piece medium D-profile maple neck sports 20 frets (plus a zero fret) and a 1 11/16th” nut width. It’s elongated Telecaster-shaped maple body is 13” wide at the lower bout and 1.75’” deep. The body is adorned with a gorgeous three-toned amber/red/black finish. This is a bass with a ton of unique character to spare, both in the looks and tone department. The pickups are punchy with a bit of twang, but can also be warm and deep in the neck setting. With the Hayman control panel and two period correct hi-fi stereo-esque knobs it oozes style both progressive and retro. The 4 bolt chrome neck panel on the back features the “H” Hayman logo. A second plate sits below the logo plate and lists a serial number of 5636. Cosmetically it is in great shape for its age. There are a few surface indentations on the upper bout and around the body but none that penetrate deeper in to the paint. There is a finish crack on each side of the neck most likely from wood expansion. It is solely cosmetic and has no effect on the playability. The neck is at a nice angle and the action is set at a factory low level. The frets are small with have some play wear but the bass has been professionally set up and both plays and intonates great. If you’re looking for a rare and unique vintage piece that will get you noticed this Hayman is for you! Includes original hard shell case.
