Summary: The Ibanez S540FM was produced in Japan by “FujiGen” and it features a flame maple top & back on a mahogany body, bolted to a maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard. This instrument was introduced in 1992 and this serial number dates this guitar to 1996.
Body: Flame maple top & back on a mahogany body with a slim “S” style body profile.
Neck: Fully bound and razor thin maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard, 22 frets, oval pearloid fret marker inlays, 25.5” scale length, 1 11/16” nut width.
Pickups/Hardware: Gold hardware, Lo-Pro Edge double locking tremolo system, 2 humbucker pickups flanking a single coil in the middle. Gold Gotoh tuning keys (made in Japan).
Cosmetics: When we got this instrument it was in pretty rough shape…..but we took it apart & cleaned it up & now it looks great. This instrument has several dings on the body & lots of wear around the edges but the beautiful flame maple & translucent green sunburst finish make all the imperfections hard to see. The gold is tarnished & losing its luster in several places and the gold pickup rings also show some wear. There is a bit of fret-wear and overall you can tell this guitar was played a lot but after cleaning it up & putting new strings on it this baby is ready to go.
Playability: This is a super thin neck – maybe the thinnest neck in our store at the current time. We set this Ibanez up with a new set of 10’s, adjusted the action so it was low, checked the truss rod & now it plays great up & down the fingerboard.
Modifications: One changed strap button
