Offered is this semi-hollow Dotmaster guitar by Johan Gustavsson of Sweden. Johan introduced this model to serve as his version of an ES-335 type guitar. But as anyone who has ever played a Gustavsson will tell you, this incredible instrument is so, so much more.
The Dotmaster is a short scale, Les Paul-sized semi-hollow instrument with a Korina body, a Mahogany neck and a highly figured Maple top. Some folks will likely say that the Korina imparts a slightly different tone than the Mahogany does, but I think I've read that Johan uses Korina on this model primarily to make the Dotmaster as light as possible - this example weighs just 6 pounds, 11 ounces and is perfectly balanced. The neck shape feels like it came right off of a '59 LP with depth measurements of .895" at the first increasing to .955" at the twelfth. The dark, Ebony-like fretboard is made of Brazilian Rosewood. The pickups are fabulous Throbaks.
This guitar sounds incredible and it plays in an even higher class. Very few guitars approach the build quality, feel and tone of a Gustavsson instrument and I would argue that his semi-hollow guitars are even better than his incredible solid body models. If you love the tone of a Collings I-35 or ES-335, then you will adore the sound of this instrument. If you love the thick tone of a Les Paul, but can't deal with the weight, you are also likely to adore this guitar. Check out the brief sound sample below, as well as the video of another Dotmaster in action.
