Description

FON 1074H-41. Hawaiian version of the KG-14 with wide 12-fret neck. Originally set up with a high nut and saddle, designed to be played with a slide on the lap, it's been masterfully converted to standard play by luthier David Sheppard. David also very successfully X-braced the top (from the original ladder bracing) with a single scalloped tone bar. The voice is richer than the boxier/bluesier KG-14 with a distinctive bass response. The beautiful amber top, firestripe guard and Gibson-like 'open book" headstock distinguish it from the run-of-the-mill Kalamazoo. The nut is 1-7/8" and the string spacing at the bridge is 2-3/8. It is set up with low action for fingerpicking. The big C-shaped neck feels quite comfortable. The frets appear to be the original somewhat small frets Gibson used on their small guitars in the day. There is no truss rod. It is light as a feather. The case is an original softshell. The 12-fret neck and rich voice make this an intriguing guitar to play. A nice complement or alternative to the more expensive L-00.
