Here’s a sweet 1950 Kay K162 bass just like the one played by Howlin’ Wolf bass player, Andrew “Blueblood” McMahon. You can play lots of musical styles with this bass, though, not just the blues. It has the authoritative thump and round tone you’ve heard on countless records.
The K162 is a hollow body instrument, so it’s nice and light. It has the sonic resonance that’s characteristic of hollow bodies, but because of there are no f-holes, the feedback issues are minimized.
This bass is in very good to excellent condition, especially for an instrument that is over 50 years old. A few small dings here and there are all that keep it from an unqualified excellent condition rating. The sunburst finish is vibrant, the tiger-strip trim around the pickup and controls is just gorgeous. The fingerboard and frets are in great shape. The neck is smooth as silk with a nice vee profile.
Sweet bass. Sweet sound. Sweet price.
