Description

Ross, Inc. of Chanute, Kansas are best known for being the producers of the beloved “tuck n’ roll” solid state Kustom amps and cabs of the 1960s/1970s, famously used by John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival. In addition to their awesome amplification, Kustom also manufactured some fantastic guitars and basses including this fine K200 model. These were only produced for a short time, from about 1967 to 1969, so they do not show up very often! This particular model features a “Wineburst” finish on a semi-hollow body and has a serial number of 2191. The body is similar in design to Rickenbacker’s 300 series guitars with a single triangular cat’s eye “F”- hole and double cutaways. The pickups are single coils and were designed by DeArmond for Kustom. Like other DeArmond pickups they have a classic sound, “chimey” and clear with a good punch to them. The CTS potentiometers date to 1966. The bound neck is comfortable with a flat curvature, somewhat similar to a Fender “D” neck. It measures about 1 9/16th” at its aluminum nut with double horizontal dot inlays and a rosewood board. With the semi-hollow body this guitar weighs in at a lightweight 6lbs 11 ounces, far from a neck breaker. The parts all look to be period appropriate based on our research and the guitar has been set-up by our in-house tech for optimal playability and intonation. It is in incredible cosmetic shape with only light finish wear and a few spots at the bottom of the treble hand side of the body where a previous owner had (unfortunately) attempted to fill in some finish dings with purple marker. Other than that the guitar looks gorgeous with the wood grain showing beautifully through the Wineburst finish. Anyone looking for a fantastic guitar that oozes vintage cool should be all over this fine Kustom! Includes original hard shell case.
