This 2018 Lazy J J-40 from 2018 includes all the available options, plus it comes with documentation as being previously owned by Joe Satriani.

The amp is in fabulously clean condition and works perfectly.  

I had not encountered a Lazy J, so I didn't know anything about them when I happened upon this amp.  I was pleasantly surprised when I dug in as I was pretty sure at first glance that it was a nice Tweed Deluxe clone.  Well, that it definitely isn't!

Plenty of headroom is available with this amp, but not so much that you can't get it to break up.  It really fills in on stage where many vintage tweed amps can't cut it, allowing you to stay clean when the band gets rolling.  It also has a built-in attenuator, so if you need to hit the saturation point at lower volumes you certainly can.

The amp is immaculately built with the finest components, right down to the awesome sounding Fane speaker.  The reverb and tremolo upgrades are added in a very cool and unique way - see the pics and check out the description from Lazy J below.

Even though the initial inspiration for the J40 came from a custom order for half a J80 (both in size and power level), it quickly evolved into the perfect platform for an amp that could combine the essence of both the J20 and the J80.

The goal was to build a 40 watt amp that would blend the harmonic richness of the J20 with the punch and warm headroom of the J80....and all in a handy 1x12 grab and go package.

The J40 is hand wired, with a finger jointed, solid pine cab...and just like the J20 and J80 it has four inputs, two (high/Low) for the Bright channel, and two for the Normal channel, with a separate Volume control for each channel.

The channels mix after the Volume controls, and the signal then runs into a single set of tone controls...Treble, Mid, Bass, and Presence. There are several switchable options to help achieve a terrific tonal and dynamic flexibility.

Like on the J80, there’s a Sensitivity control that adds harmonics and drive that will allow the amp to accommodate a great variety of requirements.

Combining all these options, the J40 can be big and clean, reminiscent of the Blackface era, or it can be thick and warm like the best of the Tweeds...

Of course the J40 is available with the optional Lazy J Reverb and Tremolo modules...

An optional feature that can be added to the amp in place of the Ground Switch, is a Variable Attenuation Control (VAC), which allows the user to dial seamlessly from full output down to ca. 5 Watts while retaining the amps character all the way along.

Upon request, a Lazy J Reverb module can be added to the amp. It is a tube driven reverb circuit with a full size reverb tank, adding another dimension to the amp. The reverb circuitry and controls are housed in a small enclosure that is mounted to the inside of the cabinet, on the right hand side, looking at the amp from the back.

The controls, Reverb Volume and Reverb Tone, are easily accessible.

The module is supplied with a Cut Off footswitch.

This circuit allows the user to reduce the output of the amp in an even sweep from full power down to less than 5 watts. However, this is not a master volume. This circuit retains the amp's tone and response while reducing its output volume. In other words, you turn your amp up to get the tone you want… which might make it too loud for certain situations. Now you can turn the amp down with the VAC to exactly the level you need while retaining all the character and response of your sound. This circuit is an optional feature on the Lazy J 20, however, it can be retro-fitted to most amps under 40 Watts.
