The knob is a switch, and at 0, it is switched off and in buffer mode, and when opened slightly, it switches on with a "click" and operates as a booster in the range of -∞ to +26dB. The best thing about it is its compact size! It can be powered by a normal 9V (center minus) power supply, making it easy to use.
