Description

Be you a serious collector or player (or both), this an acoustic that is sure to appeal. Offered here is a Martin 00-42 Linda Ronstadt artist model, number 13 of the 150 guitars that were built back between 2008 and 2009. This guitar, serial number 1333148, has hardly been played and is in near mint condition.

The 00-42 is a 12 fret, short scale (24.9") instrument. It is a medium-sized guitar, with a slightly elongated body shape that has a lower bout width of 15" wide and a total body length of just 20-7/8". This very limited artist model has an Adirondack spruce top, back, sides and headstock overlay made of Madagascar rosewood and the neck is made of mahogany. The top is supported by scalloped, 1/4" Adirondack spruce bracing. It has Martin's "Modified V" neck shape, a 16" radius black ebony fretboard with binding and a 1-13/16" bone nut. It has a lovely slotted headstock with engraved brass Waverly tuners with ivoroid buttons. It has a black ebony bridge with 2-5/16" string spacing. As a 42 series Martin, it has a 45 style rosette, black and white purfling, ivoroid binding on the body, neck and heastock and fancy abalone trim is used extensively, including Linda's signature inlay between the 18th and 19th frets. It has a full gloss finish. It weighs just 3.8 pounds. This is one classic beauty!

While lovely to look at, this guitar's beauty is not just skin deep. It plays with superb ease and has just been setup with Elixir light strings. The 12th fret string heights are 6/64" on the low E side, 4/64" on the high E side and with just a wisper of neck relief. While this guitar has seen almost no previous play, it already has a tone that is rich and woody with lots of note to note clarity and midrange punch. It was designed for fingerstyle play, but you can really dig-in with a flat pick if you like. Either way, the output of this little beauty will amaze you and it is sure to get better with more play.

In terms of it's condition, the original owner played it (very) briefly, humidified it and put it away. It remains in virtually "as new" (near mint) condition with zero fret wear and no flaws of any significance whatsoever. It came to me with the original Martin strings still in place and the original strap pin has never been installed. The original TKL Geib style case, also remains in near mint condition.

When introduced 13 years ago, this limited edition model had a list price of $10K and was sold by dealers for $8K. Given this guitar's amazing condition and the replacement cost of an equivalently equipped, limited run Martin, this guitar is priced quite reasonably. Make this lovely, collector-grade Martin yours. An over-the-top holiday gift for yourself, or the one you love!
