Offered is this spectacular, collector-grade Martin 00-42 K-2 Robbie Robertson, number 2 of the 100 that were built. This is the all Koa version of the limited run guitars first introduced at the 2007 NAMM show and which were based on Robbie's own 1919 00-45K.
This magnificent Martin is a short scale, 12 fret, 00-size instrument with the top, back and sides made of highly figured Koa. It has Golden Era style scalloped Spruce X bracing. The neck is Mahogany with Martin's Modified V neck shape. The fingerboard is black ebony with Style 45 snowflake inlays, grained ivoroid binding and a 1-13/16" bone nut. The pyramid-style bridge is a also black ebony and offers 2-5/16" string spacing. It has a slotted square headstock with a Madagascar rosewood overlay, abalone 'Torch' inlay and engraved Waverly tuners with grained ivoroid buttons. The guitar is highly decorated with a Style 45 rosette and purfling, Style 42 top inlays and Style 45 back purfling. This is one incredibly beautiful instrument!
This guitar nearly plays itself with a factory setup that is ideal for strumming or fingerpicking with 12th fret string heights of 7/64" on the low E side and 5/64" on the high E side. The tone is as magnificent as the guitar is beautiful with a surprisingly warm voice that belies the guitar's all Koa construction. It is a highly responsive guitar that reacts well to your level of input and has lots of note-to-note separation and sustain. Check out the brief sound sample provided and I think you will agree.
This guitar was purchased new in 2007 and appears to have been put away unplayed. What appear to have been the original factory Martin strings were still installed when I received it. I can find no flaws, the end pin has never been installed and the frets are flawless. It comes with it's original Geib style case in similarly incredible condition.
This is a rare opportunity to own one incredible, rare and historically relevant small-bodied Martin. Make it yours.
