Martin 000-18 Vintage Acoustic Guitar 1940 - Natural
Here we have a wonderful Martin 000-18 vintage acoustic guitar from 1940!
This guitar features a mahogany body, mahogany neck, spruce top, and ebony fretboard. The bridge is a competent ebony replacement. The tuners are original yoda heads. The body is crack-free, as is the neck. The fretboard extension shows faint woodgrain cracks between the frets, but they appear closed and stable.
The neck has been set and there is a small area on the bass-side heel where the wood exhibits some chatter. It is all stable, with a small amount of finish touch up work. The treble side of the heel, the rest of the neck, and the body all appear to be original finish without any overspray or touch ups.
The body of the guitar has a number of dings and marks over the surface, as well as light buckle wear on the back. There is some discoloration on the top behind the bridge, as well as a band of discoloration on the back. We estimate the guitar was stored in a case with a leather strap around it, or that there were some papers in the case which interacted with the finish.
The guitar has a wonderful tone. It is big and open with a warm low-mid band and clear treble. It has incredible sustain, nice mahogany overtones, and a touch of natural reverb emanating from the body. It weighs 3lbs 10oz. The neck measures .850 to 1.005 at the 1st and 10th, and the nut width is the slimmer 1 11/16". It has a soft V profile with a shoulder that fills out in the higher register.
