c. 1858 Martin 1-26 Adirondack Spruce, Brazilian Rosewood | Historical Acoustic Guitar!

c. 1860 Martin 1-26  Adirondack Spruce, Brazilian Rosewood!

Astonishing to realize that this guitar was around when Abraham Lincoln was president and survived the Civil War. A guitar that is over 160 years old and yet, still a viable instrument today and doesn't look much different than many Martin's made today... The guitar plays fairly well and sounds decent. More of a sweet sound versus the projection of later golden era Martin's. Still a useful instrument for certain sounds. This particular example blends a few different styles of Martin: De Goni, Ivory soundhole, approximately 1856-1858, Zig zag back, mix and match purflings. Comes with hardshell case. Condition: Actually pretty clean and original guitar for a guitar that is over 160 years old! There are multiple repaired cracks but structurally it’s all there. The action is reasonably playable but in today’s terms it’s in neck reset territory. It’s a historical piece so we opted to keep it in its current state. It also has an ancient bridge setting technique repair that has metal rods going through the bridge to the bottom of the guitar. The tuners are very unique and high end brass type from the period.

Neck measurements: 0.88”/0.94” at 1st/8th frets
