Description

Offered is this lovely little Martin, the CS 00S-14, a limited edition model introduced at the 2014 Summer NAMM show. Just 114 of these little beauties were built. If small-bodied guitars with a warm sweet voice are what you crave, please read on.

The CS 00S-14 is named for the year introduced, not for the number of frets free of the body. This is a 12-fret 00-sized guitar with a short (24.9") string scale. Martin was looking to build a guitar with a strong vintage vibe, so they gave this guitar a torrefied (a first for Martin at the time) High Altitude Swiss Spruce top which adds a vintage look and voice to the guitar. The top is supported with Adirondack Spruce 1/4" GE style bracing.

Honduran Rosewood was selected as an affordable alternative to Brazilian, a tone wood with a price and tone similar to Madagascar Rosewood. The guitar has a colorful three ring rosette and fancy 42 style abalone top trim. The Mahogany neck has Martin's popular "Modified V" shape. The binding on the body and the neck is made of Cocobolo. The back strip is a 45-style multi-color zipper affair.

It has a Black Ebony fingerboard, headstock overlay and pyramid bridge. The 12-fret fingerboard has a 16" radius and is decorated with relatively unique inlays and a 1-13/16" bone nut. The compensated, drop-in saddle has 2-5/16" spacing. The bridge pins are unbleached bone with Abalone dots.

The guitar features full hide glue construction and what was then new for Martin, a super rigid carbon fiber neck support rod in place of a conventional truss rod. This rod makes the guitar a bit lighter and increases resonance.

The finish is gloss lacquer on the body, with satin used on the neck and headstock overlay. To top things off, each of these guitars comes equipped with a factory-installed Fishman Aura VT system for amplified play.

I loved this guitar immediately. It is light and lively, yet powerful for such a small guitar. The voice is just what most folks look for when shopping Martin guitars; warm and sweet, a woody tone seemingly unique to the brand. Please check out the brief sound sample included below of this guitar, as well as the video of another guitar from this limited run. Check a few of the several videos of this model be played which are available out on the Web; this model has a particularly wonderful voice IMHO, even when compared with many vintage Martin 00's.

This 2014 guitar is in near mint condition with just one tiny little impression on the top that is near impossible to see unless you are looking for it (see included photo). Otherwise, it shows no flaws of any significance, frets included. It comes in it's original TKL made Martin Custom Shop case with the protective shroud.

This guitar really impressed me and I will look for additional examples for our inventory. It is a unique and highly collectible small Martin. Make it yours and I am sure you will be as impressed as I. Very nice indeed!
