Offered here is an exceptional interpretation of an ageless Martin classic. Offered is this Martin Custom 00-21 Special, a short scale (24.9"), 14-fret beauty from a very small batch that the Custom Shop built in 2012.
This little beauty has an Adirondack Spruce top which has been sanded to .105" and matched up with Golden Era-style 1/4" scalloped bracing. The back and sides are made from a gorgeous set of Madagascar Rosewood. The body binding is flamed Koa and the purfling is Golden Era-style fine herringbone. The 14-fret, T-bar supported neck is made of Mahogany with a big (.86" - 1.00" soft V) 1937 style neck shape reminiscent of the original guitars upon which this instrument is based. The Black Ebony fretboard has a 16" radius with a 1.75" bone nut and 2-5/16" string spacing at the bridge. The tuners are gold Waverly's with Snakewood buttons. The bridge and end pins are upgraded bone examples with MOP dots.
This guitar is extremely responsive and nearly effortless to play with 12th fret string heights of 6/64" on the low E side and 4/64" on the high E side. The big, soft V neck will appeal to players who love vintage Martin guitars. The tone is absolutely dreamy to my old ears with lots of note to note clarity and midrange punch for such a small, lovely instrument. While meant for fingerstyle, you can really dig-in with a flat pick if you like. Please check out the brief sound sample provided and I think you will love the tone of this marvelous guitar.
This guitar is in near mint condition, with little to no observable wear and the frets are spotless. It comes with it's similarly mint Geib-style case, the spec sheet and the uninstalled bone end pin. I can certainly install the end pin if you would prefer.
A new example of this guitar with tone woods of this quality would cost you over $8K, but this near mint example can be had for less than half that sum. As classic acoustic guitar designs go, this beautiful little Martin is hard to beat. Make it yours!
