Small bodied, 12-fret, short-scale Martins are among our favorite acoustics here at Capital Guitars. Offered here is a lovely Martin Custom 00-12 fret with Style 42 and 45 cosmetics that was commissioned in 2017.
This short scale (24.9") beauty has a Sitka Spruce top, back and sides made from a very straight-grained set of Indian Rosewood and 1/4" Adirondack Spruce scalloped bracing. The Mahogany neck was ordered with Martin's "Low Profile" neck shape and a 1.75" bone nut. Cosmetics include a Style 42 Abalone rosette and top trim, Style 45 snowflake fingerboard inlays, Abalone side dots, an "Alternate Torch" headstock inlay, white ivoroid body binding and black binding for the Ebony fingerboard. It has a modern belly-style Ebony bridge and a 16" radius compensated bone saddle with 2-1/4" string spacing. The body is finished in gloss and the neck in satin. The tuners are gold Grovers. It is a gorgeous instrument!
It plays and sounds even better than it looks. Please check out the included sound sample. It has that vintage Martin voice that is rich and woody with lots of note to note clarity. It plays with superb ease and is setup with 12th fret string heights 6/64" on the low E side and 4/64" on the high E side and is strung with light gauge Phosphor Bronze Elixirs. While meant for fingerstyle, you can really dig-in with a flat pick if you prefer. Either way, the output of this little beauty will surprise you.
Built in 2017, this little sweetheart has seen relatively little play and remains in near mint condition. You will need better eyesight than mine to find any significant evidence of play and the frets show little to no wear. It comes in it's original Geib style Martin case (also in superb condition) along with the guitar's Custom Shop booklet.
A new Martin with these specifications would cost you around $6K plus a bit of a wait, but this lightly played 2017 example can be yours for much less and right now. If elegant little Martin guitars appeal to you, this beauty has your name on it. Very nice indeed!
