Martin's highest end offering, the Style 45, was introduced in 1904 and discontinued in 1945. This deluxe style was reintroduced in 1968. OOO-45s were only available from 1934-1942 before the 1968 reinstatement of the 45 style.
There were few 000-45s made before this 1model from 1974. This does appear to be the only one made in 1974. Seven 12-fret models were made in 1970, the first year of production since 1942. One was sold in 1971 and one in 1972!
This is a beautiful piece that has been really well cared for and played very little. It came to us needing a neck set. Also, the bridge was slightly lifting and there was a slight crack next to the pickguard. These are all typical issues with vintage acoustic guitars. We sent the guitar off to our favorite luthier and patiently waited for its triumphant return.
The frets were played so little that they needed no work when the neck was reset. The bridge saddle was replaced to meet the new neck angle properly.
Now the work is done and the guitar is ready to play and enjoy. No other work has been done on the guitar and there are no other issues.
It really is a stunning piece, and though it is a 70's Martin and not a pre-war holy grail, it is a pretty significant pace of their history.
We have paired the guitar with a 70's Martin dreadnought case.
