1964 Martin D-18 w/hard case

SN. 198331...Excellent condition 1964 Martin D-18 with 70s/80s Martin black hard shell case. Mahogany back and sides, Sitka top, mahogany neck with Brazilian rosewood fret board and bridge. The guitar has had the tuners replaced with repros of the original Kluson Deluxe (though the originals are included in the sale with the guitar) and the bridge pins are likely replacements, everything else is original. The back and sides are crack free and appear free from any obvious repairs, very clean save for a few superficial scrapes and dings to the finish. The neck has been reset, and it appears that the very bottom of the heel was cracked during the reset as there is a very well-done repair to the heel. The repaired crack is a very clean hairline that is actually below the dovetail (the dovetail is not as long as the heel more detail on this below the description) see the pics where I show a Martin neck blank to demonstrate that the hairline likely doesn't involve the dovetail itself and therefore is of no structural importance. The neck angle is good, and the neck is very straight under tension (this one has a T-bar in the neck). The action measures a little over 6/64" at the low E and a hair above 4/64" at the high E with light gauge strings. Mediums would add a bit more pull to the neck and raise the action a bit without changing the saddle if desired. The guitar delivers everything you'd want from an old D-18...mature, crisp and woody tone and plenty of projection. Responds equally well to a finger style or flat pick attack. $5700 + shipping

**Photo #13 shows the heel with a steel rule against the heel, difficult to see, but the hairline repair is 2 15/16" down the heel from the fret board. Photo 14 shows a Martin D sized neck blank (unfinished, fret board installed), with the same steel rule laid against the heel. Note that you can see the dovetail of that neck blank, and that the bottom of the dovetail is at just about the same location, particularly against the heel itself (it flares into the joint, and is longer along the inside face). This demonstrates that the hairline, when it occurred, more than likely did not extend to the dovetail itself and this had/has no structural significance.
