Martin D-28 Authentic Special 1935 Guitar (used, 1993)

Martin's Vintage Series was still a couple years away when this Limited Edition D-28 was offered, and it was one of only a handful of Dreadnoughts that had been spec'd with a 1 3/4" wide neck up to that point. Martin's Mike Longworth, long a champion of Dreadnoughts in the early style (the HD-28 was his idea), was also responsible for this version and his signature is on the label. It's much like the later HD-28V, but with the wider 2 5/16" string spacing at the bridge. Other upgrades from the regular HD-28 include grained Ivoroid binding, a through-cut saddle, and high-X top bracing. Martin also gave this 1935 Special a Brazilian rosewood head plate on the neck, but the grain is so dark it's difficult to see. This was the most popular of the four Ltd. Editions issued that year (a decade later, over 20 Ltd. models were issued in 2003!)
