Description

The Martin D-45 ranks among the most iconic of guitars. The first one was made for Cowboy star Gene Autry with only 91 produced from 1933-1942. The model was re-issued in 1968. This example is from 1989.

Martin lore has it that employees selected only the finest woods for the D-45s, and this example appears to conform to that notion. The rosewood back and sides and Sitka top are very evenly straight-grained sets of wood. The body and fingerboard are profusely inlaid with abalone.

The lower bout measures 15 5/8". Scale length measures 25.4", with the fingerboard 1 11/16" across at the nut.

The guitar appears to have had no repairs. There are no cracks. The heel cap is missing, and there are a few nicks here and there. The bridge retains its original height, with a decent amount of saddle. Action is set at 6 & 7/64". The first three frets show a few divots. Overall, a very solid and attractive guitar with its original Martin fiberglass case and original owner's brochure.
