This model, released to commemorate the bicentennial of the founding of the United States, is a limited edition of 1976 (200 in 1975 and 1776 in 1976). The head is decorated with pearl eagle inlays, and the fingerboard has star-shaped inlays representing the 13 states at the time of independence.

It has the same 3-piece back construction as the D-35, but uses the same grade of wood as the D-45. The body top is made of Sitka spruce, the side backs are Indian rosewood, and the fingerboard and bridge are ebony. The pegs are original Grover, and the rosette and backstrip are attractively decorated with herringbone.

The sound impression is still very much in the nuances of a 70's Martin, with a thumping low mid that can be heard throughout the body.
It is more effective for powerful strokes than for delicate phrases.
