While I don't buy many large bodied guitars these days, I have a very soft spot in my heart for 12-fret slope dreadnoughts. Offered here is a superb Martin Vintage Series HD-28VS built in 2013-14. I've sold quite a few of these over the years because of their exceptional tone and incredible output.
This lovely 12-fret Slope D has a Sitka Spruce top which, in the case of this guitar, has aged nicely to a lovely amber color. This model gets vintage style 5/16" scalloped X top bracing. The back and sides made of very straight grained East Indian Rosewood. The neck is made of select Mahogany and has a modified V-shape. The 25.4" scale fret board is made of Black Ebony with a 16" radius, diamond and square inlays and a 1.75" bone nut. It has a slotted headstock with side-mounted open back tuners; and a Black Ebony vintage belly bridge with drop-in long bone saddle and 2-3/16" string spacing.
The tone of this guitar is as rich as they come and the output of this instrument is astounding. When playing this guitar, I am immediately reminded as to why folks favor 12-fret guitars - the sound is HUGE! Whether playing finger-style or with a flat pick, this guitar delivers in spades. The playability is superb, with 12th fret string heights of 6/64" at the low E side and 4/64" at the high E side and there is lots of saddle remaining. Please check out the brief sound sample of this very guitar provided herein. This sucker is a cannon!
This guitar was in near mint condition until it took a fall off a stand and suffered a couple of bruises as shown in my photos. The damage is a shame but it is cosmetic only and not easily seen. Otherwise this guitar is in superb condition, frets included. It comes in its original Martin Geib style case along with the original paperwork.
If you have been looking for an extremely lush sounding, 12-fret instrument with plenty of punch and you don't mind a couple of boo boos, this lovely Martin is highly recommended. Very nice and very LOUD indeed!
