In the late 1970s, the Ibanez Tube Screamer (TS808) was developed by a Japanese company called Maxon, which at the time was responsible for manufacturing Ibanez pedals. The Tube Screamer became one of the most revered and widely used overdrive pedals of all time, known for its smooth, mid-boosted overdrive sound and transparent characteristics. It quickly became a staple on pedalboards, particularly among blues, rock, and metal guitarists. In the early 1980s, Ibanez and Maxon parted ways, and while Ibanez continued to produce its Tube Screamer models, Maxon began manufacturing its own version of the iconic overdrive. In 1980, the Maxon OD808 was born, essentially a refined version of the original Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamer.
