Offered for sale:

Vintage 1977 MXR Distortion + Script logo distortion pedal serial number 423292. The serial number is on the inside of the case and the initials “JB” are etched on the circuit board. The pot codes indicate 1977.

This pedal is in good to very good condition, it is showing cosmetic wear but functions correctly.

This distortion pedal was used by countless famous rockers to create a new rock sound and inspired a new generation of pedals by numerous brands (DOD250, Ross, etc.) copying the same circuitry.

From the early- to mid/late-'70s, these pedals had a “Script” MXR logo screened on the front of the metal case. This lasted until around 1977, when a “Block” logo replaced the Script logo versions. In addition, some of the early Block logo pedals still had a Script "MXR" embossed on the back plate, before being replaced by a Block embossed "MXR."

The MXR Distortion + as its name implies “distortion,” but has a rather mild sound. The pedal uses a single op-amp and a pair of germanium diodes to ground (parallel-push) for clipping in a very simple configuration with only Output and Distortion controls, no tone control; the pedal uses no discrete transistors. Turning up the Distortion control increases the amount of distortion and at the same time cuts some bass from the signal. This pedal is perhaps best known for its crunchy heavy metal sound that was featured by Randy Rhoads in his work with Ozzy Osbourne. Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead used this pedal exclusively for distortion in the late 1970s.

These “Script” MXR pedals are well known and continue to prove to be quite desirable!

Power supply not included.

“We test every used pedal when we buy it and bring it up to our standards before we offer it for sale. Then we burn it in for an hour or so before we ship so that there are no surprises.”

*Please note: we do our best giving descriptions of used pieces. We have found it impossible to describe every mark on an instrument or amp that is not in the "mint" category. Also, what's important to you may not be important to someone else. For example, you may say, "I don't care what it looks like as long as it plays or sounds well." Another person may say, "Body cosmetics are very important to me so tell me about every scratch, nick and blemish." So, please ask the questions that are most important to you. If you ask they will be answered. They are free and there's no limit. Additional photos can also be made available.

This is a specific item that is also being offered for sale in our brick & mortar location. It is possible that it has just been sold. Please ask if it is still available before purchasing.

*It is our policy to require a signature on delivery of all musical instruments. Please let us know if you prefer no signature required when ordering or we will automatically require a signature.

If you prefer your item to be sent without a required signature Imperial Guitar and the selected carrier can no longer be responsible for the security of the package once it has been delivered.
