History! In 1871 Oscar & Otto Schmidt started selling musical instruments, applying for dozens of patents for musical instruments and related equipment. Initially their bread winner was buying and selling Guitar Zithers. After a series of partnerships Oscar would end up buying out the company they had built Menzenhauer & Schmidt. It wouldn’t be until 1911 that the Oscar Schmidt Company would be up and running. At one point the factory had over 150 employees and Oscar had several distributers over seas in Europe, South Africa and Australia.
