Description

Although no longer and business and slightly unheard of, Pearce Amplification was a company founded by Dan Pearce that specialized in designing high end and high quality solid state (and later hybrid) combo and power amplifiers. At Moog (which at the time operated out of a barn behind Bob Moog's house) in 1976, Dan Pearce and his coworkers decided to begin research on the characteristics and unique sound signatures of tube amplifiers. This research ended up leading into the designing and manufacturing of the Gibson "Lab Series" of solid state amplifiers in the late 70s. Unfortunately however, the amplifiers released were not as popular as Gibson had hoped, leading them to discontinue the line of amps just as they started gaining traction (3 years after they had been introduced). Although these particular amps weren't a hit for Gibson, Pearce knew that his amplifier designs had potential leading to the founding of Pearce amplification. Pearce and 30% of Moog's engineering department got together and started designing. They then introduced the G1 as well as several other amplifiers. The G3a was the last of the Pearce models. It featured everything Pearce had developed and learned over the course of the company. It's a hybrid design with a real 12ax7 preamp tube for real tube drive and a solid state power section. Although Pearce never became mainstream, their amplifiers have helped shape the current line of amplifiers out today, and created the well sought after guitar tone of guitar virtuoso Allan Holdsworth. This amp is Pearce's "best" and most versatile amplifier that is built with quality and thought. Unlike many other amplifier companies aiming to provide an "all in one" solution, Pearce amplifiers were built with repair and longevity in mind and thus many of the original Pearce amplifiers are still working well to this day.

This particular unit has signs of use, but it's still in good shape. It's been tested and working well, and its tube distortion is kind unique and fully functioning. This is a great somewhat niche amp that is sure to not disappoint. This amp is a 2 way design featuring an MTX tweeter and an Electro Voice Force 12" woofer. Both are fully functioning with no coil rub or distortion at high volumes.
