1931 Recording King model 807 "Nick Lucas" in excellent condition with very minuscule signs of wear throughout the guitar. By 1931 the depression had taken a toll on the sale of Gibson's highest end models like the Nick Lucas. One attempt to remedy this was the repackaging of their finest models for a broader market. In essence the Model 807 is a Nick Lucas Special. It shares the deep body found only on the Nick Lucas. Montgomery Ward offered the model 807 for just one year 1931-32. Production numbers are unknown however they rarely appear for sale and are held tightly by savvy collectors. The light build and deep body make for an extraordinary and incomparable guitar. The bracing is finely shaped and walks the tight rope between strength and tone. The mahogany body with spruce top provides brilliant clarity while the deep body helps the bass register excel. The neck is a wonderful slim round profile that does have a steel truss rod, however like many of the Gibson made off-brand models it is only adjustable if the neck is removed from the body. This example is easily the finest one we have seen in person or photos. The condition is remarkable for such a lightly built instrument now 92 years old! This guitar is almost completely original with the only exceptions being a professional neck reset and refret as well as the installation of a new nut done here in house by Tom. The guitar was constructed with a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and bridge and mahogany neck. 1.75" nut width .76" thickness at the first fret, 1.05" thickness at the tenth fret, 2 11/16" string spacing, and weighs a feather like 2.88 lbs and comes with the original hardshell case a rarity in itself and also in excellent condition.
