Ron Kirn has been building custom Telecaster and Stratocaster-style guitars for over 40 years out of his Florida shop. Few custom guitar builders give you so much instrument for such a reasonable price. Offered here is a marvelous instrument that Ron built to a customer's specs about a year ago. Like virtually all of the Kirn guitars I've played over the years, this is one great Tele!
This beauty was ordered with just about every option you can get. It has a double bound Alder body with a beautiful Surf Green nitrocellulose lacquer finish. It has a lovely flamed Maple neck with a medium/large C-shape, and depth measurements of .85" at the first fret and .95" at the twelfth fret. It has a lovely dark Indian Rosewood fretboard, with a 9.5"-12" compound radius, 1.685" bone nut and 6105 stainless steel frets. It has Gotoh vintage style bridge with compensated brass saddles and locking Schaller tuners. The pickups are Lindy Fralin Blues Specials with volume and tone controls and a four-way switch. The guitar has a total weight of just under 8 pounds.
Ron plays his builds a bit before he sends them to their new owners and it shows. This is one marvelous Tele-style instrument. The feel of the neck, the fret work, the intonation and the tone are immediately impressive if you've played a Tele or two. It is evident that this is a hand-made instrument built by someone who just loves Telecaster guitars. Please check out the brief sound sample provided. This guitar sounds superb. The original owner had Ron customize the wiring of the four way switch so you get a relatively higher output in position one, with normal Tele settings in positions two through four.
This guitar is in superb condition with just a couple of flaws. Ron left a small gap between the body and binding in the upper bout which I've included a photo of. You can't feel it as it's below the lacquer finish. Ron offered to repair this flaw, but the original owner saw no reason to have him do so. If you are really compulsive, you will also find a few tiny microscopic impressions on the body here and there, but I was unable to get photos of them. These issues aside, this guitar is in superb shape and the stainless steel frets remain is flawless condition.
Purchased new this guitar cost $3,500 which is like getting a masterbuilt grade instrument for team built prices. You can get this lightly played beauty for far less than that. It comes to you in a high quality tweed case in near mint condition. This is a really great value in a very high quality instrument. Make this gorgeous Kirn Tele yours today. You will be very glad you did!
