The tachi, the predecessor to the renowned katana, is the quintessential sword of feudal Japan. Long, single-edged, and suspended from the belt by straps, it was more than a formidable weapon—it was a symbol of ritual, artistry, and masterful craftsmanship. While I can never match the skill of those ancient swordsmiths, I can pay homage to their legacy through my own art form.
Tachi is that tribute. Its neck is impossibly slender, yet reinforced with carbon fiber and a two-way truss rod, making it remarkably rigid. Constructed from multiple layers bent and laminated to form the headstock angle, it echoes the precision of traditional Japanese craftsmanship. The natural sapwood of kabo rosewood gracing its surface mirrors the hamon—the distinctive temper line that defines Japanese blade work.
The body is hewn from a single slab of purpleheart, its surface treated with my proprietary Dragonskin finish—stabilized, charred wood meticulously infilled with gold. The edges are then carved away to reveal the striking, vivid purple of the heartwood beneath, a bold contrast of nature and refinement.
The electronics embrace elegant simplicity, designed for sonic precision. Two in-house humbuckers are paired with individual slider potentiometers, offering nuanced control over output. The hardware, comprising Gotoh’s 510 bridge and locking Stealth tuners in a black chrome finish, ensures both speed and stability. Sleek, uncompromising, and deadly in its execution, Tachi is a weapon of sound—crafted to cut through the mix with lethal rock tones.
