’63-’64 Vintage Sears Silvertone 1449
Summary: This is one of the rarest of the Silvertone models and it was only offered for 2 years. Its’ lipstick pickups, unique hollow construction and Brazilian rosewood fretboard, upgraded with new jumbo frets, make this a really vibrant and resonant vintage rare guitar. This model originally included a tube amp built into the case. It does not include its original amp-in-case counterpart, but otherwise appears all original. It has a great feeling neck, lightweight Masonite body and loads of vintage vibe.
Body: These guitars have the unique construction of a Masonite-covered poplar/pine frame with a really interesting criss-cross rope pattern sides. The pickguard is a one-ply Masonite guard with a layer of white on top.
Neck: The maple neck is finished with a nice red sparkle stripe down the middle. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard has 21 jumbo frets, aluminum nut, 25” scale length and 1 ¾” nut width. The neck angle is adjustable by an allen screw in the back.
Pickups/Hardware: This guitar has a nickel plated bridge with 3 adjustable screws and a rosewood saddle. The tuners are all one closed back unit that works fine. The pickups are the original lipstick tube pickups, there is a three way toggle and each pickup has a stacked volume and tone.
Cosmetics: This guitar has some nicks and dings but no major cracks, breaks or visible repairs. There is paint chipped off a few places on the back, around the edges of the body and headstock. There is a chip in the neck heel and some scratches on the back of the neck.
Playability: This guitar plays really well. It has been re-fretted with jumbo frets and has been set up by our in house luthier with low action and strung up with a fresh pair of 10s.
Modifications: It has new jumbo frets and someone has made a shielding cage around the electronics inside.
Weight: 6 lbs, 3 oz.
