Silvertone was an American guitar brand was primarily sold through the Sears department store chain and catalog and manufactured by companies such as Harmony and Danelectro. One of the best models released under the Silvertone brand (at least in our humble opinion...) is this 1446, also known as the “Chris Isaak” model for its association with the seminal singer/songwriter. The 1446 was introduced in 1961 with production running until roughly 1967. It is a single-cutaway hollow body with a factory installed Bigsby vibrato system and a bound bolt-on neck. The neck sports a rosewood It features two Gibson-designed Mini-humbucker pickups with unique specially-designed raised bevels to keep them set and in place. They sound fantastic with plenty of snarl and bite at high volumes and lots of clarity and jangle at lower volumes. The pickups are controlled by dual volume and tone “cupcake” knobs. The original black finish has worn somewhat over time and some paint has chipped away around the edges of the headstock. There is some light separation in the headstock (bass hand side; above the low E tuning machine) that looks to only be cosmetic with no effect on the playability. It does not have the original pickguard but does include a nice reproduction one without brackets. The 1446 is a gorgeous sounding guitar with an amazing feel that can go toe-to-toe with any comparable hollow body Gibson anyday! The secret is out on these babies so don’t sleep on it! Includes aftermarket SKB hard shell case.
