This 1964 Standel Imperial XV amp just came in from the son of the original owner. Check out the original price tag! Original covers are also included, and the footswitch looks original too.
This appears to be a very early version of The Imperial sold state line of Standel amps. I can't find another one like it out there. It has the coolest look, with that custom, tilt-back head and slick mounting solution.
The amp has some really bitchin tremolo on board. It has a really swimmy character to it, almost like the brown era Fender amps.
The speaker is a squeaky-clean JBL D140F.
I replaced a few electrolytic caps in the amp and cleaned the pots. Everything else seems to work just as it should. There is a little bark when using a humbucker loaded guitar with the volume and tremolo ramped up high. I found myself there while testing the amp out, lost in the swirly goodness. I don't think there is anything wrong with the amp, it just responded this way under this particular use.
The original handle on the head was broken when I bought the amp. I retrieved a few broken reel-to-reel tape machines with this amp, so I recycled the handle from a 70s Sony two-track, installing it on the original Standel handle base.
This amp is ultra-cool and would dress up any amp collection or studio.
