Jimi Hendrix owned an S6420 Thunderbolt, and Jimmy Page used Supro amps for recording much of the early Led Zeppelin material. Mid-60s Supros are the kings of overdriven blues and rock. Although Supro marketed the S6420 Thunderbolt as a bass amp, it was roundly dismissed by bass players, but became the darling of 60s guitar players.
This 1965 S6420 Thunderbolt is very clean with its classic Supro gray tolex in superb condition. There is a small tear and fading in the grill cloth but nothing egregious. Some tarnish on the control panel in back, but again, nothing unsightly. It’s in very good to excellent overall condition. No mods except for an added 3-prong power cable and replaced tubes.
Powered by a pair of 6L6 tubes, the Thunderbolt delivers around 35 watts of raw power, and there’s nothing you can throw at the vintage 15 inch Jensen that it can’t handle. It delivers all the vintage bluesy tone you could possibly ask for, and when it’s dimed you will rule the stage.
