This Univox Hi-Flier is a fantastic Japanese-made short scale bass that was produced from the late 1960s up until 1977. This model was made later on in what’s known as the Phase III period, when Univox began using humbucking pickups instead of the earlier P-90 style pickups used during the first two phases. The humbuckers give it a more powerful and deeper sound, making it an excellent bass for rock, punk, or grunge playing. The plated tuners, 3-ply W/B/W pickguard, volume and tone knobs, and bridge (with foam padded bridge cover) all look to be original to this guitar. There are a few dings on the back of the body that have been filled in with black marker by a previous owner. There are a few other finish marks in the body especially on the sides towards the bottom. The hardware is pitting slightly. There is what looks to be a slight burn mark on the bass string side of the headstock. This bass has been set-up by our in-house tech for optimal playability and intonation. These Hi-Fliers are a great option for bassists with smaller hands or for guitarists looking to stretch out to bass playing while still holding onto a guitar-like feel. Includes chipboard case.
