Description

1936 Washburn Model 5257 "Solo" Acoustic guitar. This guitar is very rare, and was made by the Tonk Brothers Co. in Chicago. The guitar is in excellent playing condition. I just had the neck re-set, fingerboard leveled, frets dressed, and action set-up performed by an excellent luthier. A non-original hard shell case is include. This example has no cracks which is rare for an 88 year old guitar. I cannot say enough about the sound and power of this guitar- it has the volume of an old Martin dreadnaught but is a little larger than a Martin 000 size guitar. The tone is somewhere between a Martin and a Gibson of the 30's era. FANTASTIC guitar!!!
The neck is made of 5-piece laminate maple, with a soft "V" profile and a 25-1/2" scale length. The Washburn name is inlaid in pearl in the large rosewood-faced headstock.
These Washburns were not budget brand instruments; they were sold at prices comparable to high-end Martins. They are all extremely rare, especially the pro-grade models like this one.
