C. 1900 Washburn style 115 parlor guitar

Beautiful Brazilian rosewood back and sides, solid spruce top, and 'rope' marquetry around the top make this a handsome instrument indeed. This little guitar has had significant work done to it to keep it going, and as a result it plays and sound great, ready for the next 100 years. Don't know who did the work but it is all professional quality. The guitar has been refinished and the neck replaced, along with the bridge. The bridge plate was extended by about an inch on the back edge, likely to help accommodate steel strings, which the guitar does quite well. The guitar is strung currently with light gauge steel and holds up well, the top is flat and the neck is very straight. The transverse braced top is crack free as are the sides. The back has two cracks down near the tail block that run with the grain, about 2 1/2" in length each, they can be seen in the photo that shows the lower portion of the back of the guitar. They have not been repaired but the current owner (the guitar is on consignment) has chosen to leave them be as they do not exhibit large gaps. I'd recommend repairing them before they do. The scale length is 24 1/4, the nut width 1 3/4" and the string spacing at the bridge is 2 3/8". The neck angle is perfect and the action low for fingerstyle play with plenty of saddle showing. There is some drop-off of the end of the fret board associated with the set of the neck angle as the fret board tongue was not 'wedged' when the neck was installed. Nevertheless the guitar plays very well. Intonation is good. Nice tone, mostly mid-range and treble as is usually the case with ladder braced guitars but the bass that is there balances well. The guitar comes with a custom made wood/hard shell case that fits very nicely. $800
