Description

Named after the fading paint of a classic Russian BM circuit of the mid-90s, the Fade Font from Wren and Cuff delivers on one of the more unique Fuzz boxes of that era, played by so many of our favorite artists. Featuring custom pots made to reflect the original 150k values, this louder, more aggressive fuzz hits a sweet spot that sounds fantastic.

Description Courtesy of Wren & Cuff:

The louder, more aggressive sibling of the legacy classic, Tall Font Russian, the Fade Font draws its inspiration from one of Matt’s other most beloved vintage Russian-made muffers from 1994.

This particular muff stood apart, featuring 150K pots (rather than the 100K found in almost every other BM version) and unique component values not present in earlier models. Factor in time-drift and a 15% variance in values, and the result was a tone so distinct it demanded careful deconstruction to reproduce.

THE GOAL?

Recreate the legendary high-gain, papery grit, and commanding, focused low-end that have made this circuit a favorite among guitar and bass players. After nearly two years of meticulous revisions and experimentation—including custom-fabricated 150K pots with precise tapers—the circuit was finally perfected.

WHY IS IT CALLED THE “FADE FONT ‘94”?

The name nods to a unique quirk of the original 1994 pedals: their graphics, printed with low-quality powder-coat and ink, often faded dramatically over time. This detail became a defining characteristic of these vintage USSR-made BM pedals, adding another layer of charm to their legacy.

To complete the experience, we designed an enclosure that mirrors the dimensions of the original design. This full-sized recreation faithfully replicates the robust, iconic aesthetic while ensuring a durable build that will stand the test of time. It’s a pedal made to honor its heritage while delivering exceptional performance for years to come.
