This “Bronson Singing Electric” serial number X4346 is a circa mid-50’s vintage Valco-made electric lap-steel guitar. Some have said these are great guitars, a cut above the average supro-style lap steel.
George Bronson was a guitar teacher in Detroit, MI during the 1930s and 1940s. He specialized in steel guitars and many of the Bronsons are square neck guitars made by the National/Valco company. There are also regular Bronson guitars made by the Harmony Company. George ran the "Bronson Music & Sales Company" in the Kerr Building in Detroit, MI, where he sold and distributed sheet music and guitars.
Valco made guitars, amps, and lap steels for many different companies like Supro, National, Oahu, Gretsch, and many others. Bronson was one of their top-of-the-line for lap steels.
With blue-grey pearloid covering the body, gold plated hardware, 6 strings, Kluson deluxe 3-in-a-line tuners with gold sparkle buttons, clear fingerboard which has white backing with gold "frets" and gold diamond fret markers, Supro pickup, white volume and tone controls on opposite sides of pickup, clear plastic cover over pickup, old-style Amphenol screw-on connector (common National/Valco) screw-on cord jack (1/4" adapter included). The nut width is 1 15/16" and the guitar weighs in at 5 lbs.The pickup is a touch warmer than the P-90 that was used in the Gibson Century lap-steel guitars.
This great piece of vintage “Americana” lap-steel guitar is in excellent condition. Very collectable, very playable.
Comes complete with the rare, original hard shell case.
***Please note: we do our best giving descriptions of used pieces. We have found it impossible to describe every mark on an instrument or amp that is not in the "mint" category. Also, what's important to you may not be important to someone else. For example, you may say, "I don't care what it looks like as long as it plays or sounds well." Another person may say, "Body cosmetics are very important to me so tell me about every scratch, nick and blemish." So, please ask the questions that are most important to you. If you ask they will be answered. They are free and there's no limit. Additional photos can also be made available.
